Sutton Special Risk Earns Spot on Canada’s Top SMEs List (2025)

Sutton Special Risk is proud to announce that we are recognized as one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers for 2025. This achievement reflects the dedication of our exceptional team and the strong culture we've built together.

Now in its 12th year, Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers is an annual editorial competition that recognizes the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that offer the nation's best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies. Canada's SME sector is tremendously important to the nation and is responsible for over two-thirds of the country’s private-sector employment. Each year, the competition's editors evaluate employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition: (1) Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement.

Here are some of the reasons why we were selected as a 2025 Top SME:

• Sutton Special Risk increased starting vacation entitlements to three weeks

• Sutton Special Risk supports ongoing employee development through a variety of in-house training initiatives, including paid internships, formal mentoring, leadership development and financial bonuses for the completion of certain courses — employees also receive subsidies for professional accreditation, along with tuition subsidies for job-related programs

• Sutton Special Risk helps employees plan ahead with retirement planning assistance services, along with generous matching RSP contributions, to five per cent of salary
