The risk of being kidnapped and held for ransom is not isolated to those few problem regions that are frequently mentioned on the nightly news.

According to a 2017 study conducted by Control Risks, the foremost global risk consultancy and provider of crisis response services, kidnaps-for-ransom were recorded in 87 countries last year.

Clearly the possibility of an organization's personnel being kidnapped while working outside of their home country is a real and present danger.
